About Planning Forum

The Planning Forum is affiliated to the Department of Business Economics. Knowledge of Economics is essential in every field for sustainable growth. The Planning Forum organizes various activities to give an in-depth understanding of socio-economic policy changes and their implications to the real world. The Planning Forum of our college seeks to empower students by conducting various co-curricular activities with the following objectives:

Objectives

  • To encourage students to update themselves and express their views on current socio-economic issues facing the Indian economy
  • To bridge the gap between theory and practice by promoting experiential learning
  • To update themselves with the latest developments on policy changes and analyze their impact on various sections of the economy
  • To assess knowledge and understanding of economic concepts and phenomena among students

Activities

In keeping with its objectives, the Planning Forum has organized the following activities:

  1. Elocution Competition: The A. D. Shroff Memorial Elocution competition is an annual event conducted by the Planning Forum since 2005-06, sponsored by the Forum of Free Enterprise. The main objective of the competition is to encourage students to update themselves, express their views on current socio-economic issues and also train them in the art of public speaking.
  2. Economic Quiz and Crossword puzzle: The Forum conducts these competitions to assess students’ knowledge and understanding of basic economic concepts and phenomena.
  3. Expert lectures have been organized on various current topics like Goods and Service Tax, Foreign Exchange Market, Crypto currency etc., to update students on latest developments taking place in various sectors of the economy.
  4. Visit to Reserve Bank of India to help students gain first-hand information on the working of this dynamic institution.
  5. Development of life skills is promoted by organizing Leadership Training Programs for the students.
  6. Awareness programs for youngsters on the repercussions of smoking, chewing tobacco in association with various voluntary organizations.
  7. Industrial visits for students to get insights into the manufacturing processes of different industries and exposure through experiential learning.

    Both these industries are manufacturing units situated in the picturesque place of Silvassa. The trip provided rich learning experience to our students.

  1. Visit to RBI Monetary Museum on 24 January, 2017 helped our students to understand financial instruments of ancient and contemporary India.
  1. A talk on ‘Goods and Services Tax’ (GST) by CA. Hrishikesh A. Wandrekar on Friday 11th August, 2017.
  1. Leadership Training Camp’, arranged by M.R Pai Foundation, jointly with Forum of  Free Enterprise, Mumbai and SIWS College, Wadala on 20-21 August 2018.
  1. An Awareness Programme for youngsters on the repercussions of smoking, chewing tobacco by Ms Gita R. Pai from GSBS Medical Trust on 31st August, Friday 2018. Dr. Shruti Madgavkar, clinical psychologist at GSBS clinic also counselled the participants.
  1. Residential Leadership Training Camp was held at Lonavala from 19-24thDecember, 2019. It was organized by Forum of Free Enterprise in collaboration with M.R. Pai Foundation. The theme of the camp ‘Overcoming Challenges of life’.  Final year student Mr. Jayesh Mishra was selected for the program.
  1. A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition is an annual event organized by Planning Forum as part of its regular activity. Our student Vandana Nisha was selected for the final round in the year 2018-19 and secured the prize.
  1. Planning Forum and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (I.Q.A.C.) in association with Forum of Free Enterprise and M.R. Pai Foundation organized an online Leadership Training Program for Degree College Students from 15-18 June 2020, with the following objectives:
  • To promote leadership and management skills among students.
  • To enable self-awareness and self-empowerment

Future Plans

  • To organize seminars and workshops and expert lectures on recent economic developments, issues, policies and its implications on civil society
  • To organize industrial visits to develop entrepreneurial skill amongst students and to understand the functioning of the market, its demand and supply
  • To organize field trips to different financial institutions to understand their mechanism, system intricacies and impact of their operations on the overall economy
  • To organize short-term courses which would help to enhance confidence, positive attitude and behaviour among participants through classroom training, practical knowledge and implementation of skills and steering them towards setting up their own business
  • To help students conduct surveys on socio-economic issues which will promote research culture among them.

Activities

The Planning Forum organized a visit to RBI Monetary Museum on 24thJuly 2015 as a part of its regular activity. It helped our students to understand financial instruments of ancient and contemporary India.

A one-day industrial visit to Igatpuri was organized on 10th August 2015.The industry visited was KLASSPACK PVT.LTD at Nashik. It produces glass ampoules and tabular glass vials. Students also got a chance to visit Vipassana Meditation Center.

The Planning Forum organized an Elocution Competition on 10th September2015. Participants spoke for five minutes on any one of the following topics:
1.   Agrarian Crisis-Farmers’ Suicides
2.   Disaster Management
3.   Emerging challenges of Globalization
4.   Menace of Black Money
5.   Rising Unemployment and Policy Reforms More than fifteen students from different streams participated in the competition.

A.D.Shroff memorial elocution competition is a very important activity of the Forum sponsored by the Forum of Free Enterprise since 2005-2006.The main objective of the Forum of Free Enterprise is to update students on new economic changes and invite their contributions on policy decisions. The Planning Forum organized A.D.Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition on 28th November2015.
