About Department
Southern Cultural Association is a team of enthusiastic teachers and students who aim at organizing various literary and extra-curricular activities every year. Students enthusiastically await festivals like Pongal and Onam which are celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal besides participating in literary competitions like short story writing, poetry writing, Thirrukkural Recitation Competition to name a few.
Objectives
- To encourage Tamil and Non-Tamil students to participate in various competitions and events organized by the committee.
- To imbibe the values and culture of south India into the students in innovative ways.
- To motivate the students to showcase their talent in the form of participation in events like Pongal Making, Pookolam, Dance, Cooking-without-fire to name a few.
- To develop leadership skills in participants by encouraging their active role in coordinating events during festivals.
Major Highlights
- Participation of Tamil and Non-Tamil students in competitions like Thirrukkural Recitation, Pongal Making, Pookolam to name a few competitions held by the association.
- Each year, Pongal is celebrated with a theme that sensitizes students towards the society and makes them more aware & responsible.
- “The secret of having is giving”- is the basic motto of that the association believes in. Donation in the form of Jaggery, Sugar, Rice and Dal is collected and distributed to an NGO.
