About Department
The advent of interdisciplinary subjects like Material sciences, Bio-Physics, Chemical Physics, Medical Physics, and Nano Sciences etc. has widened the scopes of the undergraduate students of Physics. The students are guided and encouraged in their endeavor by the four experienced, qualified staff members of the department, of which two are Ph.D. holders.
The objective of the department is not only to impart the subject as prescribed by the university but also to further enhance their understanding by encouraging them to participate in various activities like inter collegiate quiz programs and lectures conducted under Science Association of the College. To widen their exposure to advance topics and the current trends in physics the students are encouraged to attend lectures conducted by TIFR and Nehru Planetarium, accompanied by the faculty. Educational visits with the students to the Nehru science center, Geo-Physics Institute are also undertaken by the faculty of the department.
The understanding of the subject taught in the classroom is further strengthened in the laboratory during the practical sessions. The department has a well equipped laboratory which strengthens concepts and enhances the skills of the students in handling various instruments. As part of the curriculum Microprocessor and programming in C++ is taught to the final year students.
The department was the first to start a departmental library, with good number of reference books, managed by the Final year students.
The department conducted S.Y.B.Sc. syllabus workshop in the year 2017-18 in collaboration with Board of studies, Mumbai University and a workshop in Nano Sciences in collaboration with the Chemistry department of the college and department of Nano science and Nano Technology University of Mumbai.
The Faculty members participate in various workshops and seminars conducted by other colleges. They also contribute as Syllabus committee member, paper setters and examiners for various examination conducted by the university. Some of the faculty members have published papers in International Journals besides presenting papers in National and International conferences held abroad.
