About the Department
Our college started the B.Com (Accounting & Finance) course in the year 2016. It provides a perfect platform for budding finance professionals to hone their skills and further their careers as Mumbai, being the financial capital of India, sports a wide array of financial institutions and industries.
The B.Com (Accounting & Finance) course is a three years full time program affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The curriculum aims to give a complete overview of accounting related subjects like Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Financial Management, Auditing & Taxation and also enables students to visualize the world of accounting and finance through a broad spectrum of other subjects Economics, Law, Ethics and Computer systems.
This course lays the foundation for students to be competent accounting professionals and opens up a whole range of possible careers in the field of accounting and finance. This course also acts as a launch pad for students aspiring to take up careers in professional courses like CA, CMA, CFA, CS, MBA, etc.
The faculty of the department consist of qualified professionals with industry experience. The Department invites eminent speakers and accounting professionals to guide the students on various accounting, finance and taxation issues. It conducts various seminars and conferences for the students to supplement the stated curriculum.
Objectives
- To provide in-depth knowledge and to equip students with the necessary skills in the area of Accounting & Finance
- To impart comprehensive training to students by way of interaction, seminars, workshops, projects, presentations, industrial visits, practical training, job orientation and placements
- To imbibe ethics and values in the students with respect to Accounting and Finance
- To prepare students for a wide variety of careers in Accounting, Auditing, Taxation & Financial Sectors
- To encourage students to pursue professional qualifications such as CA, CMA, CFA, CS, MBA, Ph. D, etc
Pedagogical Skills
- Lecture based teaching enabling interactions coupled with development of problem-solving skills
- Use of PPT and video lectures in ICT enabled classrooms and on online teaching platforms to promote a greater conceptual understanding
- Hands on experience to the students on the computers in the computer lab during Information Technology practical sessions
- Participative learning through group discussions, seminars, workshops and project presentations
- Case study-based learning aided by discussion of factual cases in subjects like Business Law, Auditing, Corporate Law and Taxation to promote critical thinking
- Industrial visits that facilitate observational and experiential learning
- Exploring various finance and taxation related websites viz. Income Tax, GST and MCA website to understand practical aspects and various compliance functions
Special Programme
The Department conducts seminars and workshops for students on various current financial affairs like discussion on Union Budget, Goods and Services Tax etc. The students of the Department participate in various activities organized by various associations of the college that include Elocution competitions, Management quiz and Expert lectures by well-known personalities.

Strengths:
- Qualified and competent faculty consisting of Chartered Accountants with professional and Industry experience
- Much in demand among the students aspiring to become Chartered Accountant, Cost & Management Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, Company Secretary, etc
- A syllabus designed to offer a perfect blend of specialized knowledge in Accounting & Finance along with allied subjects like Economics, Law and Information Technology
Weakness:
- Students doing apprenticeship or part-time jobs find it difficult to cope with the vast syllabus
- Time constraints in completing the syllabus as a lot of practice work need to be given
