During space flight to the Moon on board Apollo 14 in 1971, Edgar Mitchell caught a glimpse of the Earth which filled him with ecstasy. He sent a message to NASA ground station at Houston: “It looks like a sparkling blue and white jewel – laced with swirling veils of white – like a small pearl in a thick sea of mystery.” Today, we need not take a flight in the space to see what we have done on Earth. Today, we can see, breath, smell and drink pollution. This is where the subject Environmental Studies gains its significance.
